THE RAINBOW BODY SERIES
“We are all like a rainbow — beautiful, present, and yet a figment within the universal mind.”
I titled this body of work “The Rainbow Body Series” because it’s about expressing transcendental spaces and the experiences and emotions that take place within them. In each painting there is a rainbow spectrum of some kind, which for me, points to the transcendent principle.
In Tibetan Buddhism there is this idea of achieving the “Rainbow Body”. This is probably the most advanced yogic practice there is in that lineage. Essentially the Yogi achieves such deep states of meditation that at the end of their life their bodies dissolve into a rainbow at the moment of their choosing, leaving zero trace of their physical form.
This sounds super far out, because it is! In fact, there have been many eye witness accounts from Tibetans of great teachers, Lamas, and yogis achieving this state.

The first time I read about these practices my mind was blown. How beautiful and seemingly impossible this is. Yet, the deeper I go, the more I understand, and the more I sense the possibility of something as miraculous as this.
Of course I am nowhere near ever getting close to achieving this highest state of meditation, perhaps a million lives from now. However this notion of such a transcendent state inspires me. It nurtures within me a connection to the miraculous and provides visions of these spaces that are both connected to the earth and yet at the same time, beyond it.
